Songmuhe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The Songmuhe Formation was erected by Xu Yanqiang in 1960. The section for the designation is in Beishan of Houjinsha of the Huanan County of Heilongjiang. In 1963 Chen Guangya erected the Yilin Fm; in 1979 Yang Yueyu designated the Kangji Fm equivalent to the Xigemu member, which has been discarded during the stratigraphic sorting. In 1979 Yang Yueyu designated the Dongdaling Fm equivalent to the Aoqi member during the stratigraphic sorting. The Xigemu member was erected by Cai Wenhua in Xigemu of the Jiamusi City in 1990, previously called the Xigemu Fm and the Auqi member was also erected by the same person in the same year on the Caomaodingzi Mountain of the Jiamusi City, previously called the Aoqi Fm. Considering their clear contact relationship and adequate age basis, the two formations were used as members instead during the stratigraphic sorting in 1994.
Lithology and Thickness
The Songmuhe Formation is represented by a set of continental intermediate and acidic volcanic rock assemblage, which is roughly divided into two members. The lower member, called the Xigemu member, is represented by intermediate volcanic rock assemblage dominated by lava, consisting primarily of gray green and gray black andesite with basalt andesite. The upper member, called the Aoqi member, marked by the appearance of quartz andesite, is dominated by gray white and gray purple rhyolite and spherical rhyolite, with dacite, breccia ignimbrite and tuff. The two members show an eruptive unconformity between them. The Songmuhe Formation is in excess of 814.8 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
